2014 will be the year of the…

COMMUNITY

I hope that in 2014, people will focus less on themselves and more on outward expressions of goodness and togetherness. The idea of the actual word of the year being “selfie” is pretty disgusting. Modern technology is the narcissist’s best friend. I think we should instead focus on the places and spaces around us; our environments and communities. I heard once that average people talk about people, intelligent people talk about events and great people talk about ideas. Who is starting the conversation about places and spaces?

I want to start that conversation and focus more on our communities as they stand and find ways to make them better. Yes, we as humans impact our environments and change the way people interact with one another. This is why I am amplifying the PlaceMakers Series. Each month, I would like to highlight a different person in Charlotte and the reasons they are creating a truly incredible place to live. To check out past PlaceMakers articles, click on the Category to the left  of the page.

Look out for the next one in January.
